10/14/10 castaway 4

 1. POV (point of view) How was the point of view told.
 2. Discuss basic human survival skills. How did there help keep Chuck alive?

The POV was in Chuck's POV. The movie showed everything that Chuck went through while trapped on the remote island.  It's showed how he survived and how he struggled to keep alive and sane. It told how he finally left the island and how he made it home.

Basic human survival skills include ways to live. Such things such as gathering food, getting water, creating shelter. Avoiding danger, creating tools to aid your survival and being around other beings are also something that you need to have to survive

10/13/10 castaway 3

1. Describe the setting of Castaway.
2.What was Chuck's major conflict?
3.Describe why Chuck let the love of his life go.

The setting of castaway is on an island in the pacific. There are no other islands around, all Chuck, the main character, can see around is water, water, and more water. There is a long stretch of sand where Chuck first ends up, and there is a tall mountain, where chuck climbs up to see if there's anything around. The island was also deserted, there were not even animals on the island besides the fish around it. That being said, chuck was completely alone on this island.

Chuck had two major conflicts. The first one was he had to learn to fend for himself on this island. At first it was extremely hard for him, as he continued to get injured, frustrated, and discouraged. It took a lot of time and effort for him to learn how to catch fish and crabs, to make a fire, and to get fresh water. He had to make tools to help him on the island, such as his 'hatchet' made out of stone that he accidentally made in the beginning.
His other conflict was being alone. Humans, by nature, are social creatures, and need other human beings to keep sane. As a result of being alone, he has to talk to himself, and later, a volleyball with blood on it to create a face. He names this ball 'Wilson'. Talking to Wilson, Chuck keeps relatively sane.

10/11/10 Castaway preview 1

1. What does it mean to be castaway
2.How would you stay alive and sane if you were lost and all alone on an island.

Castaway means to be lost on a deserted island or all alone away from civilization.

The problem is, I wouldn't be able to. At this point of my life, talking with my boyfriend and by best friend are all that keep me sane.

10/6/10 island bliss

If you were stranded on an island by yourself what 5 things must you have and why?

The items would be:

A survival knife. This knife includes wire to cute branches with rings to help you hold it, a compass, the knife, a place to store matches, and some flint. This would probably be one of the things I would need most.

A tent: This would provide my shelter until I could build a better one. I could create a platform with vines and wood in a tree and secure the tent in a tree to protect myself from predators.

A canteen/barrel. I could always make a place to store rainwater by using leaves and a hole, but without a place to store it I would run out. Or I could set out the barrel and catche the water directly, using leaves to keep insect life out of it.

Stationary: At least five notebooks, a set of pens and a set of pencils. This would allow me to record anything I disover, a log of my time there, sketches and rubbings, and other things I may need.

A cellphone with unlimited minutes: I wouldn't last a week without someone to talk to.
