11/9/10 Avatar

  1. In sentence form, state the primary character in the story and give a description of each.
  2. What is the primary conflict?
  3. What complications do the main characters face in reaching his/her goals? Explain
  4. What is the Theme?

The first primary character is Jake Sully, a human who used to be a marine. He lost the ability to use his legs. He gets around in a wheelchair, and doesn't let anything stop him, if he can help it. He's a good guy at heart, and he really wants to help the Na'vi people drive the RDA Corporation out of Pandora.

The second primary character is Neytiri, a female Na'vi. She's the daughter of the chief of the Omaticaya tribe. She is the first Na'vi to find Jake and is the one who teaches him how to be one of the People. She and Jake are mated.

The primary conflict is manVSman. Jake has to stop the colonel from destroying the Na'vi people and drive the RDA corporation out of Pandora.

Jake can only use his Avatar form while in a the machine, so if someone pushes the eject button he is forced back to his human body. This complicates things when he's fighting alongside the Na'vi and when he's fighting of the Colonel. He can't breathe Pandora's air. It's toxic to humans.

The theme is knowing what is right and doing it.

11/9/10 book review: chapter one

Hattie wakes up on the first day of her summer vacation and  starts her day, going downstairs. She gets out everything her cook will need to start breakfast. After the cook arrives, her mom and dad come downstairs. Hattie brings Miss Hagerty's tray to her and talks with her for a while. After breakfast she goes and watches her dad work, interested in an abstract he's doing. Her dad is a painter. After all of this, she goes to see her best friend Betsy.

11/9/10 book review: before chapter one

The chapter starts off by talking about a person's memories. The person is looking at movies their father made. The person is the only one downstairs, and it is night time. Their parents have gone with her Nana and Papa to a dinner at a club and her father trusted her with his projector and film so she could watch movies. She sets up the projector and watches a movie, and then another, the second one from her precious summer. As she watches it she realizes that her father, though his movies are great,  don't show the whole story. he only showed the good times, not the part that changed the person's life.

11/2/10 respect

  • Define:
  • What respect means to you.
  • 3 examples of respect
  • 5 examples of respect in the workplace

Definition: To show regard or consideration for: to respect someone's rights, to refrain from intruding upon or interfering with, to relate or have reference to.

Respect is tolerating another person differences, beliefs, customs, and or views.
Respect is important to me. Without respect there would a lot more violence in the world and less tolerance for people who are considered 'different'. In a world without respect, people would be a lot less happy because there would be more teasing in schools, more harassment in workplaces and less  order on the streets. Respect is needed to create healthy relationships in normal circumstances and to make and keep friends. If you disrespect someone, chances are they won't like you as much.

  1.  Not teasing people who are homosexual.
  2. Opening the door for an elderly person.
  3. Visiting a relitive's grave or going to their funeral, even if you don't like them very much.

  1. Not being to close to other employees.
  2. Keeping distasteful comments about a customer's choice in purchases.
  3. Saying nothing even if you think a customer looks funny or strange.
  4. Keeping any rumors you hear to yourself, except to warn the person about whom the rumors are about.
  5. Being late for a meeting.
